Memory Verse

The Truth
God does NOT abandon us during difficult times in our lives!

Week 2 of Advent

- Advent Week 1 - Hope: Prophecy Candle (Purple)
First Sunday of Advent
The first candle, which is purple, symbolizes "HOPE". It is sometimes called the "PROPHECY CANDLE" in remembrance of the prophets, especially Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. It represents the expectation felt in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

- Advent Week 2 - Peace: Bethlehem Candle (Purple)
Second Sunday of Advent
The second candle, also purple, represents “FAITH". It is called the "BETHLEHEM CANDLE" as a reminder of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem.

- Advent Week 3 - Joy: Shepherd’s Candle (Pink) - “Gaudete Sunday”
Third Sunday of Advent
The third candle is pink and symbolizes "JOY". It is called the "SHEPHERD'S CANDLE" and is pink because rose is a liturgical color for joy. The third Sunday of Advent is called "GAUDETE SUNDAY" and is meant to remind us of the joy that the world experienced at the birth of Jesus, as well as the joy that the faithful have reached the midpoint of Advent.

- Advent Week 4 - Love: Angel’s Candle (Purple)
Fourth Sunday of Advent
On the fourth week of Advent, we light the final purple candle to mark the final week of prayer and penance as we wait for the birth of our Savior. This final candle, the "ANGEL'S CANDLE" symbolizes "PEACE". It reminds us of the message of the angels: "Peace on Earth, Good Will Toward Men."

The meaning of Advent Wreath
The Advent wreath symbolizes the never-ending love of God. There are typically four candles on the wreath.

Lights of the Candle
It symbolizes the light of Christ, which grows brighter as Christmas approaches.

Wreath (Circle)
A circle of branches from an evergreen tree that signifies God's unending love for us.

Some Advent wreaths also have a white Christ-candle, which reminds us of the purity of Jesus and is lit on Christmas Day!
The beginning of the Advent season in this year will start on Sunday, December 1st. Advent is a four-week season leading up to Christmas.

Apostles’ Creed (https://nazarene.org/)
We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He shall come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Church of Jesus Christ, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer (https://nazarene.org/)
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
